WAR GAMES: Houthis Combined Armed Forces Simulate Attacks on Israeli, US Positions

In Offensive Drill in Southern Yemen, Houthi Forces Simulate Attacks on Israeli, American Positions (video report)

The Iranian Proxy Force Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, or the Partisans of God

Their slogan — “Death to America. Death to Israel. Curse on the Jews. Victory for Islam.” — is splashed on posters across their territory and screamed at protests.

On May 9, 2023, Mayadeen TV (Lebanon) aired a report about a military drill held by the Houthis’ Sanaa Forces in a 100-square-kilometer area in the Taiz region in southern Yemen. The large-scale drill, which was titled “Loyalty to the Martyred Leader,” was carried out by forces from the Houthis’ 4th Military Command and involved the use of infantry forces, artillery, tanks, rockets, and explosive-laden drones against targets simulating Israeli and American positions. According to the report, the 4th Military Command is responsible for the Yemeni regions of Taiz, Lahij, Dhale, Abyan, and Aden, and the drill was an offensive drill meant to “elevate combat readiness” during the current “neither-peace-nor-war” situation in the conflict in Yemen.

“What we are seeing in Yemen is technology being the great equalizer,” said Abdulghani Al-Iryani, a senior researcher at the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies. Summarizing the Houthi mind-set, he said, “Your F-15 that costs millions of dollars means nothing because I have my drone that cost a few thousand dollars that will do just as much damage.”

The rise of the Houthis as a force capable of striking far beyond Yemen’s borders has helped drive a broader political realignment taking hold in the Middle East.
