Historical perspective, the building of Hamas combat subterranean networks
When Israeli forces invade the Gaza Strip, the infamous network of tunnels controlled by Hamas will be waiting for them.
Israel has referred to the subterranean labyrinth as the “metro” in Gaza due to the size and depth of the network.
When invading Gaza, Israeli forces will find themselves confronted with a complex and dangerous urban environment. Hamas’s well-armed and well-prepared forces will be able to hide, set up traps, and launch surprise attacks against the invading Israeli forces. And some of the most difficult fighting could take place underground, in the city-like labyrinth of tunnels that are essential to the defensive and offensive operations of the militant group.
