Following Iran’s airstrikes in Iraq, Syria and Pakistan, the Arab League is set to hold an emergency meeting while Islamabad and Baghdad have recalled ambassadors.
In an unexpected move that has shaken the geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East and South Asia, Iran initiated a military action against Pakistan. The action was executed with missile and drone strikes that targeted the bases of a Baluchi militant group, Jaish al-Adl, in Pakistan. This act has marked a significant escalation of tensions between Iran and Pakistan, two neighboring countries with a complicated history of diplomatic and security relations.
Iranian news agency Mehr News said the “missile and drone” attack targeted the Pakistan headquarters of Jaish al-Adl, a group formed in 2012 and blacklisted by Iran as a terrorist group. Jaish al-Adl has carried out several attacks on Iranian soil in recent years.
Iran said the other missile attacks targeted “spy headquarters” and “terrorist” targets in Syria, and Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region.
